Seismites or Convolute Stratification in Ladakh - Ritesh Arya
CONVOLUTE STRATIFICATION (Mt Sediments. Sdom; Dead Sea Basin, Israel. ) Convolute stratification is formed in sediments deposited in lake basins, unconsolidated and saturated in water. It can occur in stratified sediments deposited on a slope of the bottom of the lake, or in relatively horizontal stratified sediments. If these sediments are mobilized by an external factor that is very often an earthquake (hence they are usually known as "seismites"), movement that is favored by the lubricating effect of saturation water, the original stratification is altered by giving these kinds of internal structures.
