Demchok

Demchuk is a place where Indus river enters India It is the shortest distance to reach Kailash approx 300kms. Before 1962 entire Demchok was with India but after 1962 China forcefully occupied the land which was part of Tibet which China had already captured in 1959.

Chinese occupied Demchok (OLD)

I had the opportunity to work in Demchuk and in October 2013 was there. My main purpose was to explore and develop groundwater for the locals and army troops stationed there. On our side rationing of light was there as fossil fuel was the only source and everything went off after 11pm.

Indian Demchok NEW

But on that night Chinese side for the 1St time lit the lights in old Demchuk for the whole night.
The entire army unit was on high alert as the Chinese side had not only erected the military base @ old Demchuk in 4 months but had 24x7 electric power.
For the 1st time, I realized how these small things on the borders create psychological problems.
Even the nomads live a very difficult life especially in winters, due to heavy snowfall lack of fooders starve their cattle to death. but still, they are struggling
There is an urgent need for building SMART BORDERS Villages with nomads as their center and keeping in mind their needs because they are the real permanent soldiers guarding our borders.
By law that all new vehicles and generator equipment should be at the border posts.
China is playing mental war games on the borders and is slowly creeping inside Indian territory
I strongly believe that this place should be opened to tourists Chota कैलाश as an alternative to Kailash which is 300kms away from this place.
Our motto should be very clear that one day we will reclaim Kailash from China.
